If it's really a historical hotel, then they should have some material. Contact the general manager, or Public Relations Manager, and just ask for some background.
You should be able to find their website.
If its a hotel that doesn't exist anymore, then yeah Googling might give you some direction to research.

Try your local records office.
I'm doing a history dissertation at the moment and I've spent a lot of time at the one in Preston and they will be able to help you out there.
Also, in your library will be business directories from the 19th century that will have the name of the landlord when the directory was compiled.
