The earliest record of gunpowder is in a Chinese book from around 850 AD. Gunpowder was first used in warfare in 904, as flaming projectiles called "flying fires." Soon after that its use was expanded to explosive grenades hurled from catapults. Next gunpowder was used as a propellant. The first such use recorded was in 1132 with mortars consisting of bamboo tubes.Mortars with metal tubes first appeared around 1270. Gunpowder spread to the Arabs in the 13th century. The first written reference to gunpowder in Europe was in a book written in 1248.

And the rest, as they say, is history. We all know of the horrors of war and human misery caused throughout the centuries by the use of gunpowder. So would the world have been better off without gunpowder and a better place today?

The aim of the course I am studying is to provide an opportunity to study works from the period 1630-1700 in their political and cultural context. the period which saw the civil war, the restoration of the monarchy. and the revolution of 1688, was one during which writers were deeply involved in the political issues of the day, and debates, about forms of domestic, national, colonial, and religious authority feature prominently in the course. At the same time, the later seventeenth century saw radical changes in the disclosure of love and sexual relations and in the presentation of urban cultures.

The literature which I have to concentrate on is: Aphra Behn, Oroonoko, The Rover and Other works, William Congreve's Love for Love, George Etherege's Man of Mode and John Milton's, Paradise Lost.

Conentrating on the cavalier poetry of marvell and lovelace, hobbes and locke too.

I mean for example, Victorian, Edwardian? I am trying to research a certain house that was built in 1910. I understand that it could have been copied from a different style but what was the period of the time?

I always wondered if any Nazi idealogues ever said: "hey, maybe were not the master race after all." They would do stuff like kill all the horse traders who were Jewish, and then they could't get any horses. The curtains in the Berchtesgarten were made by a Jewish designer. They were irreplaceable because she was gassed. Then the ultimate defeat. I just wonder if anyone was on record as saying: " maybe we are not so bright after all."

People say "You can find history in books, read it, but why study it academically?"

Natives American were Virtually killed in millions over a 100 year span, but the killings are not cnsidered a genocide but actually celebrated by holidays such as Thanksgiving and Colombus Day, What Hitler did to the Jews was a Holocaust of mass porportion in a short time frame, and what christians did to Africans and Native American was holocasust of mass porportion over a long period of time.
