All the initial success the Germans had in the beginning of the war were due to Hitler's generals plans. Hitler didn't take over the strategy of the war until the Germans failed in the Battle of Britain. At that point he thought that massing his troops for Operation Barbarossa against the Russians was more important, almost every strategic plan thought out by Hitler on his own, though possibly well conceived, ended in failure. It was his generals like Goering and Rommel who were the brilliant tacticians and strategists who won Germany its initial victories.

Try reading about the Blitzkrieg doctrine and military tactics concerning mechanized units(Achtung Panzer). This type was implemented for the first time and countries like France and Poland with old fashioned armies could not deal with it.

BLITZKRIEG (LIGHTNING WAR). It was the best tactic to be used as it counted on speed. First, bombers would bomb the enemy and then parachusista would be dropped to cut off communication. Later on, armoured cars and tanks would crash through the enemies weak spots.
