All I can figure is that it might have been due to one or a combination of the following:
1) Possibly it was opportune timing on the Americans part due to something hindering the British army (for example, like another war that the British was fighting at the same time with another opposing force).
2) Maybe the US forces employed innovative war tactics unknown before that time.
3) The US was lucky.
4) The US was well prepared and the British underestimated the US's preparedness to fight.
I suppose I could go on speculating. Does anyone have any information on this?
