I think part was luck. Part using tactics unfamiliar to the British. We basically fought a gorilla war. British soldiers at that time lined up in a straight line and fired their weapons and then would kneel and the next line would fire, etc. This method was ineffective in the heavily wooded North America. The Americans used the woods as concealment. They would go up trees and stay behind trees and rocks. And they would fire their weapons from places of concealment. This meant fewer got hit and we hit more British. We were not well prepared but they did underestimate how hard and long we would fight. They had no idea how pissed off we were about the way that they treated us. We were right and they were wrong and we knew it and fought that way.

i will make it as short as i can.
the British were at war with France.
Britain demands more taxes from the American colonies.
Americans don't like the idea and start a patriotic war.
the British start killing innocent Americans.
Americans get pissed off.
the British are kicked out of America.
America is free.
WW2 Britain is in big trouble.
Britain kisses Americas a s s for protection.
America is loving it.
sorry about the last point, i don't mean any offense its just that i don't understand how can a nation is so loyal to another that they save them from being invaded even though in the past the other nation tried to prevent its creation. and went to extreme measures to do so. so yeah, it was because the Americans had some sort of a government which could replace the British, unlike the other British colonies. America was involved in the first world war as well, historians say that the last breakthrough which forced the Germans to sign a piece treaty was a result of an American victory which resulted in the brake-up of the German lines. by the way the British are an Honorable nation too.

The English mode of operation was not to face people head on in battle. Initially, they would establish an investigative trading colony with an overwhelming force against a few natives or tribes of natives. If there were riches to be had, they would send more people later.
Then they would destroy crop fields or other food sources and starve the local population into submission. They used this tactic to murder millions of people in every colony they established.
The revolutionary army was poorly armed, poorly trained, and lacked discipline. After making a blunder and being surrounded on Long Island with the east rive at their backs, an unfavorable wind kept the English fleet from sailing up the East River and sealing the American's fate. 400 Irishmen held the entire English army at bay allowing time for the rest of Washington's army to escape across the East River with the English in pursuit. When Washington crossed the Hudson later, the English commander became fearful of being so far from his ships and did not cross the Hudson after him. After Washington destroyed a small German mercenary force at Trenton and a small English force in Princeton, the English became more afraid and went home.
The same thing happened in the War of 1812. After destroying a poorly financed and ill equipped army in the Great Lakes area, burning the White House, and forcing the President to flee into the Virginia Hills along with his wife, the English encountered a dug in Army in Baltimore after having bombarded the city for days from the safety of their ships and decided to return to their ships rather than fight. Then they turned tail and ran all the way home at the battle of New Orleans.
The English had the weapons, training, and manpower but not the guts.

It was founded by Britain, not just ruled over by Britain. They didn't gain independance by force, they defected from and overthrew Britain in America.
Your country needs to get it's facts right. That one's as bad as the generally accepted idea that in WW2 Britain was loosing badly before the US swooped in "saved the day". They fail to mention that we'd been at war for quite a while with limited resources.

The British were fighting 250 other wars round the globe at the time and were outnumbered by the Apache Tribe, otherwise you would still be standing to attention to "God save the Queen!
You only joined the Brits in WW11 after the Japs destroyed all your ships in Pearl Harbour!

The Zulu's gained their freedom by force. Other than that, none of the other British colonies really tried to gain their freedom until much later.
