I seem to recall that during the 1988 U.S. Presidential campaign that Vice-President Bush gave a speech before a group of veterans referring to the day as Pearl Harbor Day. The thing though was that it was on a September 7th, not December 7, which is when the attack occurred. When pointed out about this, he deftly changed his story to say that he meant that it was Pearl BAILEY Day instead.
With all of Senator Quayle's gaffes during that campaign, I would guess that this was minor in comparison. However, I can't seem to find any trace of the story on-line. I'm just wondering if it actually happened or if I somehow imagined it.
Thanks in advance.
