If, as some might say, the United States is an idea, then it would also be fair to say that the Masonic Brotherhood created it.

The Masons were the living form of the Enlightenment and it is our brotherhood that spread the ideas of a nation built on democracy, without hereditary privilege, and free of a parasitic established clergy.

The famous first lines of the Declaration of Independance are Masonic teaching. The first President, George Washington was Grand Master of the order in Viginia. For the first two centuries of this countries existance every single President was a Mason.

Many signers of the Declaration of Independence were Masons, and most signers of the Constitution were, also. Much of the wording of the Declaration of Independence is taken almost directly from Masonic texts. Originally, the Declaration was to include a reference to God-given rights, but Benjamin Franklin, a Mason, had it changed, since the Masons only require a member to believe in a higher power of some type, not any specific religion. You can see the original Bible George Washington was sworn in with, too--it's the one from the New York Masonic Lodge #1, and it's made available to all presidents who want to use it, whether or not they're Masons.

We did not create the United States, but many of the people who were involved in the creation of the United States were our brothers. We do hold to the principles of democracy, equality, morality, and freedom of religion, and surely these principles had an influence on modern democracies.
