I seem to recall that during the 1988 U.S. Presidential campaign that Vice-President Bush gave a speech before a group of veterans referring to the day as Pearl Harbor Day. The thing though was that it was on a September 7th, not December 7, which is when the attack occurred. When pointed out about this, he deftly changed his story to say that he meant that it was Pearl BAILEY Day instead.

With all of Senator Quayle's gaffes during that campaign, I would guess that this was minor in comparison. However, I can't seem to find any trace of the story on-line. I'm just wondering if it actually happened or if I somehow imagined it.

Thanks in advance.

I vaguely remember that too. So your not crazy, George W. is. I'm sure there's some sort of designated team that is paid to try to cover up ole Bush's flubs.

Unfortunately (well... not really unfortunate) a few of them have continuously leaked his public displays of stupidity to the big late night L's, Leno and Letterman.

If he really didn't say this and I'm going crazy with you, then we should probably go ahead and start celebrating this Pearl Bailey Day. I'm sure we could re-use that old festivus pole...

I once had a friend, in the late 60's, who was born of mixed parentage (half Black, half Japanese), in Watts. Every December 7th, he would attack Pearl Bailey.
