I found a site that did show my maternal grandfather's information (including his birth&death dates, along with his SSN, how screwed up is that!) but, when I searched my maternal grandmother, no hits. I have recently found out alot about my dad's side and would like to know a legitimate site (that doesn't cost) that could help me find out more information about the grandparents I never met. My great grandparents immigrated from Sevelen, St. Gallen, Switzerland and some ancestors I believe lived in Berne, Switzerland also. I'm trying to find out how to access public records, such as birth, marriage, and death records. If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

In some states the records are sealed -- NC being one of them. Is there any other way to actually look for information regarding birth mothers? The only information known is city of birth and first name of the child and date of birth. I already know about private investigators and stuff like that, but is there a way that one can find out without having to pay a lot of money.

There are many websites such as this http://www.babynames.org.uk/ to help you pick out names, is there possibly one that helps you pick out surnames (if you want to change them) If you dont know one can you give me a bunch of surnames and what culture/nationality they come from (e.g. Walker, Smith-English Mohammed-Islamic etc)
