With Jeff is is easy! Just follow the tire marks.

But if you go to the LDS church data base of genealogy, you can start there. It is the world's largest and best kept data base in the world.

If you are unfamiliar with LDS church. It is the Mormon church. The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints.
If you call the local "Stake Center", they will even be more than happy to help you search their data base. But please remember. this is all volunteer work by church members. But each stake center has someone there to help. You may have to make an appointment.

You would have to know his birth information, his parents information, and check the census, marriage records, death records, naturalization records, and church records.

Warning: Just because his name is Gordon does not necessarily mean he is Scots Irish. There were Jewish Gordons from Lithuania.

Never assume anything until you have sources to back up your information.

Also, check to see if his family has already posted a gedcom on a genealogy website like rootsweb.com, ancestry.com, mytrees.com, etc.

Good luck.
