I thought of a word today to describe a duck in over-medative state as being Karmatosis. Altavista threw up two sites with this name on Yahoo. If I use this will I be sued that is if the book ever goes to print. Procedes will go to Charity by the way as no self-philanthropical gain is really wished.
The duck is Kimberly Quackalot so Karmatosis just rolled off nicely. Anyway I am at writer's block stage so it is not important but just need curiosity appeased. Writer's Blog block would be more appropriate. You know so much to answer that when crunch comes to crack "What do you ask?"
Also this story may lead to libel suits as it is based on a real character although she may not even realise it being such a gossip - no that is bitchy but true.

CINDERELLA

My step-sisters are willing
to cut off their toes for him.

What would I do for those days
when I played alone
in the hazel tree over my mother's grave?
I would go backwards if I could
and stay in that moment when the doves
fluttered down with the golden gown.

But everything has changed.
I trace his form in the ashes,
and then sweep it away before they see.

He's been on parade with that shoe.
All Prince, with heralds and entourage,
they come trumpeting through the village.

If he found me, would he recognise me,
my face, after mistaking their feet for mine?

I want to crawl away
into my pigeon house, my pear tree.
The world is too large, bright like a ballroom
and then suddenly dark.

Mother, no one prepared me for this –
for the soft heat of a man's neck when he dances
or the thickness of his arms.

Sonnet 30
Love is not all: it is not meat nor drink
Nor slumber nor a roof against the rain;
Nor yet a floating spar to men that sink
And rise and sink and rise and sink again;
Love can not fill the thickened lung with breath,
Nor clean the blood, nor set the fractured bone;
Yet many a man is making friends with death
Even as I speak, for lack of love alone.
It well may be that in a difficult hour,
Pinned down by pain and moaning for release,
Or nagged by want past resolution’s power,
I might be driven to sell your love for peace,
Or trade the memory of this night for food.
It well may be. But I do not think I would.

Previously I asked about non-explicit sex authors. Thanks for recommending Patricia Cornwell. I have read some of hers and like them. Haven't tried Diana Gabaldon as yet? Anyone read Susan Wiggs? Thanks for all your help!

I am trying to rediscover what I have built up in my mind as a very good story on mankind's survival on a post nuclear war era.

Here are some of the plot points I remember:

The protagonist is a boy, adolescent to teenager. He comes from a society where he is a part of a religious caste. He is sent to what is believed by his civilization to be an abandoned city of gods.

When he gets to this "religious area" he describes several buildings and structures reminiscent of well known landmarks in New York City. As I recall, some of these are Grand Central Station, and a treasury building of some kind.

The story ends when he finds the body of a man, completely dessicated by the heat of a nuclear explosion, sitting in a chair, looking out of a window, which is when he comes to the realization that the city doesn't belong to gods, but to a self-destructive civilization.

Looking for a title and an author. Extra super gratitude for a link where I can read it.
