My all-time favorite author for fiction and nonfiction is George Orwell. His style of writing and argumentative narrative are readable and understandable with the least of rude/obscene words. He never completed a bachelor degree in any university but he's an Etonian with formidable caliber of prose literature and politics and contemporary issues before and after World War II. I've collected and read the whole range of his works with admiration and consider him as a true scholar with a noble mind.

James Patterson for fiction. He wrote the 'Along Came a Spider' and 'Kiss the Girls' stories that showcase Detective Alex Cross. And I hope he has another one in the making.

Truman Capote wrote some great non-fiction stories. No matter what the subject matter, they're all colorful, graphic, entertaining, sensitive, and well-staged.

JULIAN MAY. Author of "The Many Colored Land" and its numerous sequels.

It is the first instalment of the most wonderful, exciting and remorselessly detailed yet dynamic and plot-driven series of science fiction novels I have ever read.

After reading Julian May's novels, I have found it impossible to read another science fiction book again and truly enjoy it. May really is the final word in satisfying science fiction.

Do yourself a favour; read her very first, The Many Coloured Land. You will not regret it.

Orson Scott Card...for both.

He writes wonderful fiction including the Women of Genesis series, the Tales of Alvin Maker, the Ender series, and many others.

He also writes non-fiction books like How to Write Science Fiction & Fantasy, Ainge, and Listen Mom and Dad that are easy to understand.

I think I like him most because he makes a lot of his work available on his website, http://www.hatrack.com/.
