I just finished re-reading the entire Harry Potter series. Earlier this year I read: the Other Boleyn, Kite Runner, Life of Pi, The Time Traveler's Wife, Birth of Venus, Five People You Meet in Heaven, The Historian, The Catcher and the Rye, and the Shining. I can't seem to decide what I want to read next. I am debating: Lion's Game by Nelson Demille, Lasher by Anne Rice, Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean Auel, Jonathon Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke, Schindler's List by Thomas Keneally, The Virgin's Lover by Phillpa Greggory, or Hannibal by Thomas Harris. Any recommendations?

Hey everyone, I'm sorry to be listing this again but i forgot to say something. Some of you might have thought i meant Down with Harry Potter, but I didnt. I meant respond if you love the books to, and think its stupid how people make such a big deal out of a work of fiction. Who agrees. Once again, I apologize for posting this question again. THANK YOU!

I want to write screenplays but I can't seem to discipline myself to sit down and write past an hour. I'm writing but it is going slowly...like real slowly. Then there are times when I just don't feel like writing sh*t. How can I discipline myself to write more?

In her room at the prow of the house
Where light breaks, and the windows are tossed with linden,
My daughter is writing a story.

I pause in the stairwell, hearing
From her shut door a commotion of typewriter-keys
Like a chain hauled over a gunwale.

Young as she is, the stuff
Of her life is a great cargo, and some of it heavy:
I wish her a lucky passage.

But now it is she who pauses,
As if to reject my thought and its easy figure.
A stillness greatens, in which

The whole house seems to be thinking,
And then she is at it again with a bunched clamor
Of strokes, and again is silent.

I remember the dazed starling
Which was trapped in that very room, two years ago;
How we stole in, lifted a sash

And retreated, not to affright it;
And how for a helpless hour, through the crack of the door,
We watched the sleek, wild, dark

And iridescent creature
Batter against the brilliance, drop like a glove
To the hard floor, or the desk-top,

And wait then, humped...

I started to write a story about a friend of mine, of our future, of what we're going to do. I was so confident when i started it. But now she's down and out that i feel finishing the story is no good. She is my inspiration when i started it, i did it for her to make her happy. Should i still finish the book even if she's not as interested in it anymore?

I am currently writing a syllabus for a course for adults called "Contemporary Children's Literature." So far, I've got the latest Harry Potter book, but can you recommend any other titles?

Thank you.

When outlining a novel, does the process where you list events or characters, etc..on numerous index cards really help? I've had it suggested to me before, but I've never tried it....I know what works for one person may not work for another and you have to find out what works for you, but I just wanted to know your opinions on this. THanks!

Anyone have any tips on how to organize and outline a novel? I know I just need to sit down and write, yes, but I would like some tips first to ponder over as to how to begin outlining. I have descriptions of my main characters on paper, and the basic plot and a few major events I want to happen are in my head..Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks,

I really want to stop smoking, I have tried several times but they have not been successful. I have tried cold turkey, patches, gum. I was told that this book is a great way to stop. A person who read it said that when her and five of her friend read it they never smoked after that. That was 15 years ago.

I want to know if anyone else has eather red the book or if they have heard of it.

thank you
