The Harry Potter books are among my favorites.
Anything by J.R.R. Tolkien ('Lord of the Rings' and 'The Hobbit' being the best-known, but the rest of his books- "The Book of Lost Tales" and such are about the same "world").
Philip Pulman's 'His Dark Materials' trilogy- "The Golden Compass", "The Subtle Knife" and "The Amber Spyglass" are excellent.
For some much easier reading there's K.A. Applegate's 12-book "Everworld" series, though I'm fairly sure it's out of print, and so a bit hard to come by. They're written for roughly the same target audience of (I'd guess) 9-12 year olds as Applegate's "Animorphs" series. "Everworld" is about a group of teenagers from the north side of Chicago who get sucked into an alternate universe where they encounter various gods and mythological characters from all over the world, including Viking, Aztec, Greek, and Egyptian gods, Merlin, aliens, and a giant (I'd offer a better summary, but it's been years since I read them).
Amelia Atwater-Rhodes's first 4 novels are also quite good (vampire stories). Easy reads, too. "In the Forests of the Night", "Demon in my View", "Shattered Mirror", and "Midnight Predator". They form a sort of vaguely interconnected not-quite series. There are characters that overlap, but any of them can be read independently of the others. She's also written (last I knew) 4 other novels- the beginning of a series.

I would suggest the following series: Harry Potter, Artemis Fowl, The Inheritance Trilogy (Eragon, Eldest, the third on has yet to come out), and the Bartimaeus Trilogy. Here is a book that is super natural related (I think): The Super naturalist.

I don't know if it's supernatural or not, but my favorite fantasy series is Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. Book 11 is out in paperback this month. I heard there would be 12 all told. Great characters with great capabilities, complex and simultaneous plot lines, held together with suspense. I've read it twice.

Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire series is a fun and sexy mystery series. The first book is "Dead Until Dark." The books are all great casual before bedtime or summer reads.
