with respect to Himself, as an Individual. The business of Man not to pry into God, but to study himself.

Know then thyself, presume not God to scan;
The proper study of Mankind is Man.
Plac'd on this isthmus of a middle state,(28)
A being darkly wise, and rudely great:
With too much knowledge for the Sceptic side,
With too much weakness for the Stoic's pride,
He hangs between; in doubt to act, or rest,
In doubt to deem himself a God, or Beast;
In doubt his Mind or Body to prefer,
Born but to die, and reas'ning but to err;
Alike in ignorance, his reason such,
Whether he thinks too little, or too much:
Chaos of Thought and Passion, all confus'd;
Still by himself abus'd, or disabus'd;
Created half to rise, and half to fall;
Great lord of all things, yet a prey to all;
Sole judge of Truth, in endless Error hurl'd:
The glory, jest, and riddle of the world!

Extract from Alexender popes "An essay on man".

I'm just curious, as I haven't been a member here for very long. When the last Harry Potter book came out, did people post spoilers all over this site? I'm wondering, because I avoided the internet and tv for that very reason until I was finished reading it. A friend of mine even encountered someone in a book store who was telling people what happened as they walked up to buy the book! How rude.

I had this book when I was young, and I'm trying to find it... I think it was called Babarbera, or something like that. It was about a pink animal that could change its shape to anything he wanted. In another book, he had a wife who was a black animal, and she could also change her shape. They had children (all born in the ground like plants) who were all different colors... in one story they were being hunted, so they left earth in a spaceship.

If anyone remembers the actual title or author, please let me know!!!

hi im deandra and i just got off school and was wondering what are a list of some good books to read over the sumer break.Im in to fantasy and really i never read. but read the series of harry potter and found the types of books that i only like(or would enjoy) are "fantasy" related. I really have only read harry potter (1-6) and since the the 7th one isnt coming out for a while i wanted to not stop my just starting reading phase. so please list some good fantasy books that are not 2 hard for a 8thgrade 13 year old. I prefer series instead of independent books. and remmeber im only 13 and have read the harry potter books. there not much more 2 say but thanks

I am looking for good places to submit stories, prose poems and very short essays. Particularly places that welcome work that is peculiar, sexually explicit and in strange short shapes. The online Lambda Literary site used to have a great list of places to submit writing--alas, now it is no more. Can you make a suggestion? Where should I look when puzzling out where to submit work? Thanks very much for your help.

Respectfully,

Guttersnipe Das
