The Vampire Chronicles 1-3 by Anne Rice are spectacular. They're long though, and aimed at adults. I read them when I was 15, but I've been reading adult books for a while. I don't know what level you're looking for.

1. Interview with the Vampire
2. The Vampire Lestat
3. Queen of the Damned

Don't see the movies until you've read the books. The movies aren't very good anyway.

I am answering question 2. "Why would I anyway?" If you were not an atheist, you would need Jesus to guide you, talk to and love you. If you were not an atheist, you would understand that.

As for question 1, I don't know any good vampire books but also do not understand why anyone sees anything wrong with it. There are a lot worse things out there, that's for sure.

The Last Vampire series by Christopher Pike. They should be appropriate for a 14-year-old and they are very good. I read them when I was about that age. Below is a link to the books in the series along with a synopsis of each and reviews.

I think I was 14 or around there when I read Interview with the Vampire, Anne Rice.
Loved it, I have since read 8 of her other books and working on #9.

Why don't you try the Buffy and Angel novels. Some of them are quite good. You can get a list of good books from amazon.

Dresden file book series by Jim Butcher. There are 8 books in the series beginning with stormfront. It narrates the story of Harry Dresden, chicago's only professional wizard. He stands between the general population who is ignorant about the supernatural world and the monsters-vampires,werewolves,fey.He is aided by Bob,a talking skull.Karrin Murphy-a police officer and Thomas-a white court vampire.

Another good series is the Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. The books provide an alternate take on vampires.People who are unjustly murdered call upon Artemis(Greek goddess) and she grants them a day to avenge themselves. After that they are recruited to her army to fight against evil. This series is romance oriented.Best of the series are 'Dance with the devil' and 'Seize the night'.

Other great vampire romance books include
Lynsay Sands-Single white vampire(the first book in the Argeneau vampire series)
Susan Sizemore-Master of darkness(and the rest of the
'Prime' vampire series)

"Why 14 Year Old Girls Shouldn't Waste Their Time Reading Vampire Books"- I forget the author.

Demon in my View and Shattered Mirror by Amerlia Atwater-Rhodes are good and maybe some Anne rice, though that can get mature at times. Salem's Lot by Stephen King is good, and there are two that I'm not sure of the authors, His Father's Son and Vamped.
And there's always the classics: Dracula and Carmilla 9\though Carmilla's older than Dracula and about a lesbian vampire, so I'm not sure how appropriate that would be...

Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Clause seems like the best choice for you, more so than Anne Rice books, which are good but might be too densely written for you. Blood and Chocolate deals with a teenage girl whose vampire family is run out of their West Virginia town. It's appropriate for your age and suitable for really any age.

the cirque du freak series by darren shan
are very very good iv been reading them for a long time and several people in my class read them too.they are good for teens, but i warn you that the first book starts off a little boring but gets better and you must read them .they are great in detail about vampires but get a little gross.
and also theres not many love type situations in it so it great .

barnesandnoble.com has them and so does
booksamillion.com and you should get them cheap on amazon.com

theres also the other more known books like:
blade 1 2 & 3, buffy, angel ,possibly charmed if your into witches ,vampire high, vampire hunter,
interview with a vampire,

and theres also a great movie/book and i think its called' my moms date with a vampire' but youve probably already seen it.

underworld 1 & 2 is great movies to see it very good but has some spots in it where you must fast forward if your little sis is watching ;).
