Jesus performed miracles to prove that he was the Son of God. So, he must have conceded that it was necessary to have proof to back his statements.
Today, we have no proof, only the word of others. Certainly, Jesus could have left undeniable proof that he was the Son of God. For example, he could have said, "Hundreds of years from now, great minds will find a number that provides the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, and they will create fantastic machines to calculate this number, and that number's millionth digit and the eight following it will be 285089233."
In the year 2007, we could verify that number and know that Jesus was truly the Son of God, for only one sent by the creator of the universe could hold such knowledge at such a time.
But if you tell this to a Christian, they say that such proof would leave no room for faith.
Yet Jesus Christ himself saw it necessary to perform miracles to prove himself.
So why did he not leave us undeniable proof?
