Does your religion tell you (or suggest) how to feel about the military? Do you see us as just killers and ruthless murderers? Do you only see the politics of war and not the individuals serving?

....remember, there is a large % of military members who join only for the education and benifits and travel. (I am not in that category, but there are a lot of people who join for selfish reasons)

What's your opinion of the military? (not the politics of it please)

On average the military consumes 2 billion gallons of gas annually just conducting "routine manuvers". It is "vital" to the military establishment that this precious resource not anly be consumed in mass quantities it be protected at all costs.

Military-Industrial Complex Speech, Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1961

Public Papers of the Presidents, Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1960, p. 1035- 1040

This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence -- economic, political, even spiritual -- is felt in every city, every State house, every office of the Federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society.
In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the militaryindustrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.
We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.

Another factor in maintaining balance involves the element of time. As we peer into society's future, we -- you and I, and our government -- must avoid the impulse to live only for today, plundering, for our own ease and convenience, the precious resources of tomorrow. We cannot mortgage the material assets of our grandchildren without risking the loss also of their political and spiritual heritage. We want democracy to survive for all generations to come, not to become the insolvent phantom of tomorrow.

I wrote earlier about the evil plotting slug, and your answers were very helpful. Another page in the story is that her current husband is a police officer. In another county from us, but nearby. We have even found out that she was caught speeding and almost had a head on colision with my husbands child in the back seat, but no one wrote her a ticket because of her husband. She is allowed to do whatever, whenever. I considered a restraining order, but my husband thinks that if I take that kind of action against her, it will make the situation worse. I feel as if my hands are tied. I can understand my hubby's feelings of not wanting to harm his relationship with his daughter, but where do you draw the line? It is her mother causing the problems. How does he keep a relationship with his child and allow me to take action against her? I don't feel like it is fair for my son and I to have to live w/o my husband just to make her play nice. She is relentless. I feel so caught.
