The world has about 6.5 billion people, of which only about 66% have a television. That leaves about 4 billion people. With China having about 1.3 billion people do we really think they will wake up at 3 am to watch a FIFA where their country is not participating? North American ratings are poor therefore NOT alot of people are watching from North America.
Additional Details
I understand people can watch the games on big screens or bars etc. but those individuals are not the demographic who do not own a TV. Its the parts of the world that do not have stable electricity, and care more about their next meal then a worldcup. Everyone flaunts the perception that Americans only think about America but sorry all you soccer fans you are falling into the same role, b/c not EVERYONE likes soccer/football.

Explain away 1.3 billion chinese, 1 billion East indian (#1 sport Cricket), 1 billion North Americans out of which maybe 500 million may watch...

USA v Ghana
Korea v Switzerland
And now Italy v Australia
There are many more....

This is a WORLD cup, not a Sunday leauge. Why are so many controversial calls being butchered by referees at FIFA's showcase world tournament?

We all know most Americans are not into football (or what they call soccer) and one reason I've heard is that scoring in football is low.So I was thinking of some of the changes the Americans would make to scoring in football and I came up with a couple of ideas.
1.Goals scored from outside the penalty box = 3
2.Goal scored inside the penalty box =2
3.A goal scored from a penalty kick = 1
4.Four consecutive corner kicks = 1
What else do u think they would have changed?

TEAMS SHOULD RISE TO BRASIL'S LEVEL...BRASIL ITSELF SHOULD IMPROVE DAILY AS WELL...IT IS JUST THE CASE..IF YOU WANT TO WIN THE CUP..YOU HAVE TO EARN THAT..AND IF IT MEANS BEATING BRASIL...THEN THAT IS WHAT IT MEANS..BRASIL IS NOT GOING TO LOSE TO GIVE OTHER COUNTRIES A CHANCE..THAT IS CRAP...IF TEAMS CAN'T RAISE THEIR LEVEL OF PLAYING..WHY SHOULD BRASIL PLAY THE MERCY RULE CARD AND LET THEM BACK IN THE GAME??? THIS IS NOT A TOURNAMENT WHERE EVERYONE "GETS A CHANCE"..I GET IT THAT AMERICANS MAY GET TIRED OF BRASIL AFTER ALL THIS WILL BE THEIR FOURTH STRAIGHT WC FINAL...IF THEY GET THERE...BUT THEY SHOULD BE APPLAUDED....NOT DISHONORED..IT IS AN AMAZING FEAT TO GET 4 OR 5 TITLES...6 IS JUST UNHEARD OF...BESIDES IN 2014 IT WILL BE IN BRASIL..SO THAT WILL BE NUMBER 7 OR 8... IF NOBODY CAN BEAT BRASIL.THEN WHY DO THEY DESERVE THE CUP?

Was it a penalty? I don't think so, but the italians are famous for last minute miracles. Best game of the cup so far, congrats to Italy, and good luck, see you in 4 years

Alan Kelly played In England, and played as a starting world cup goalie for Ireland. He played against greats Pele and Cruyff, and now his son (Alan Kelly jr.) plays as a starting goalie for the Blackburn Rovers.

FIFA stated before the tourney, any shirt-tugging or fouls from behind will warrant a card. Dissent will be cracked down on. In the last U20 World Cup any touching of the ball after a foul by the offending team was an automatic yellow. This is the direction FIFA wants to go. Get it! The players need to adjust.

This being said, there have been some absolutely horrible calls, Materazzi didn't deserve that red and Figo should have earned one. And yes, as much as I hate Italy, it was a PK, stop crying Roos.
