In Matthew 12, Mark 2, and Luke 6, where Jesus talks about His being Lord of the Sabbath, He seems to be contradicting God's fourth Commandment, about Sabbath-keeping. His disciples were picking grain for themselves to eat.
1) I can't understand--is it all right for us to work on the Sabbath, or isn't it?
2) The Sabbath is Saturday, right?
In all three accounts, Jesus used the precedent of David going into the temple and eating the priests' shewbread on the Sabbath, and even giving some to his companions.
3) Was Jesus saying it wasn't a sin for David to do that?
4) If He WAS saying that, how could it be OK for David (or us) to break one of God's Commandments?
Mark 2:27 is especially confusing to me: "27And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:"
5) What do you suppose Jesus meant by this comment?
Thanks very much for any help you can give me. God bless you!
No meanhearted or rude replies, please. Thanks.
