like i'm 16 n my gf's(14) b-day is in a month..and my parents won't let me get a job or anything n i love my gf..but i can't get a job cuz my parents might think i'll go bad with money and none of my friends trust me and if i don't buy my gf a gift ..i will feel like i'm a bad bf. that she will make one appetizer and that was my gift okay and shes says she wants me to pay for the ingriedents is her gift her labor for cooking then its not a gift should i tell her my gift is money that i have alot of bills plus with my b-day money is going towards my bills i have to buy my cousin a laptop so should i tell her i cant pay the stuff because of the laptop my aunt says shell pay for the ingredients but its not right plus shes staying rent free in my aunts house and at times makes the rudes coments at times

I am investigating the social practices surrounding Valentine’s Day and analyzing them in terms of the theories of Mauss' "The Gift." Anthropologists believe that gifts are a means of expressing and producing social relationships, but the dynamics of gift giving are never straightforward…indeed, many question whether a ‘pure’ uncalculated gift is even possible. And yet, in American culture, we believe that love is a sentiment that produces true expressions of generosity. My job is to explore how rituals, gift-giving, and consumer behavior surrounding Valentine’s Day structure romantic relationships and to what extent Mauss’ theory of reciprocity applies to gifts that are meant to express affection.
I am looking for people to interview about their experiences, gifts and other favors exchanged. So...please tell me about your Valentine's Day this year! How was it? What gifts were given and recieved? Anything else significant?
