I am British and obviously we don't celebrate thanksgiving. Could someone tell me what the purpose is of this celebration. And how it came about. Do you celebrate it in the same way you celebrate Xmas, i.e., exchange gists and eat traditional Xmas dinner? Am interested to know about this celebration!

I'll give you a hint. It did NOT start as a friendly meal with the natives.

I'm going to Best Buy tomorrow and I'm wondering what time to get there. The website says they start giving out coupons starting at the front of the line at 4am. I'm thinking 3 am??

So I have a pre-cooked turkey. I tried to reheat it in the oven for like 2 hours but I keep trying the thermometer thingy and it's cold inside! The directions said something about a foil tent but I just covered the thing with aluminum foil.. is that ok?
Anyway, I was wondering why it's coldish on the inside and how I can fix it :(

I have resentment toward my mother. The things that she has done to me , shes lucky that I talk to her at all. She has done some good things but very rotten things. She was very controlling when I was a teenager and I missed out on anything social, which I resent. she used to block the door from letting me leave and one time she threw my things on the lawn when I was 20 and needed her support the most. She basically kicked me when I was down all the time. Basically I went to Thanksgiving today, ate dinner, stayed for 20 minutes and then left. I feel guilty about leaving rigt after I ate but being in her house and looking at her makes me want to leave because I cant stop thinking about how she made me so depressed that I was in a hospital at one time and needed medication.
My question is...Should I feel guilt? How do I forgive and let it go?

is thanksgiving really anything more than a commerical holiday?..family getting together aside does it hold any of its
original meaning when the modern american indian has less to be thankful for than the average american?
I have to wonder what typical american indian would be thinking knowing the average american is sitting down stuffing their face while they as a virtually invisible minority who live in poverty
to them it must feel like a backhanded insult

im not saying its a bad thing because of course family is important I am only suggesting that perhaps the meaning could be adjusted to suit to both american indians and americans

what do you think?
