My mother just had a miscarriage and I want to make this a special Christmas for her so she will be happy again. My family has been through a lot, from losing our first house in a hurricane, our second one in a fire, and two really, really close friends dieing. And my mom has given everything she has to keep this family together. She is really close to her parents and sister, and this will be her first Christmas without them, and I want it to be really special for her. So I need a gift that will tell her that everything is going to be okay, that I love her, and that I think she is the most amazing person in the entire world. What is a good gift for a daughter to give her mother that says all of that? I would really appreciate any ideas.

I just found out that my aunt, whom I see MAYBE 4 times a year is buying a christmas gift for me this year. I would like to get something for her in return. She has a family of four...herself, her husband, a 14 year old boy, and a 8 year old boy. What would be appropriate and not TOO expensive for the entire family to enjoy?

My co-workers are married guys. Their respective wives baked some nice home-made goodies and these were given to me at work by the men. I want to give a christamas/holiday gift to my colleagues. I wanted to give something that they could use at work like a pen-set etc. But now, considering that their spouses worked hard to give me my gift - should I give something the spouse can use too?

FYI - I am single female and not good at baking, cooking etc. I am also somewhat new to the practice of exchanging gifts at christmas.

My husband and I have conflicting views on the issue. I was never taught to believe in Santa and as a result grew up thinking it was a silly. (Guess you could say I was that girl on Miracle on 34th Street) Anyway..my husband did grow up thinking he was real and now we are having trouble deciding whether to teach our son to believe in him or not. I don't want to. I don't want to teach him something and have him find out it's not true and hurt his feelings. I don't know.. what do you all think? I just think it's wrong to lie to your kids..about anything. I guess I'd feel differently if I'd grown up believing in Santa, the Tooth Fairy or the Easter Bunny. Maybe you guess can help me see a different side of the whole thing?

As a Christian in an every changing world. I some times wonder if we are doing things all wrong. I mean, Christ more then likely was not born any where near December 25th. More people believe or have believed in Santa Claus (materialistic/commericalism) at some point in their live then in Jesus (spiritual). So what are your reasons to celebrate Christmas? The birth of a savior or making sure you're on Santa's good list.

In the Lutheran church after the children's service they receive a bag of oranges and peanuts, sometimes with a little hard candy. Does anyone know the meaning of this?

I do not understand why people are offended by others who wish to celebrate their holiday of choice, and why is it offensive to them if someone says "Merry Christmas"? I celebrate Christmas, but would not be offended if I walked in somewhere and saw other types of holiday symbols, like a menorah or kinara. I think that if someone is celebrating something and wants to wish you greetings then you should just accept them and go on. If someone came in our office and said "Happy Hannukah" to me I would not run out offended and throw a fit. I would say "the same to you and a Merry Christmas, too" and go on with my day. And I think that people who celebrate Hannukah and Kwanza probably feel the same way. So, why has it become so offensive to people for all of us to publically celebrate our holidays? And why should the people who chose not to celebrate anything get to dictate where decorations and expressions of these holidays can be displayed? Why does it bother you so much?

with presents and santa! People that would normally be perfectly sweet will attack an old lady for a cart! It's mayhem! And even good Christian people have fallen into the worldly trap of a man called Santa Claus! They turned a wonderful saint into a fat idiot who rides on a sleigh and gives good kids presents!
