MY husband's work is having a costume contest and we have no idea what to dress him up as. I need something original and fast...please help!

Coming from Australia, we don't celebrate halloween, but I have some questions for everyone that does.
Why do you celebrate it each year - How did it start?
Do you have a public holiday on halloween?
Is it considered rude if you don't give out candy when the children knock at the door?
Did you dress up as a child for halloween, and if so what was the best costume you ever had?

We already bought costumes for them and they are not really warm/full body dresses.

Is it bad to be a christian and go to Halloween parties and go trick or treating? I'm not celebrating the devil, just a little fun for the kids. Watch scary movies, eat candy and stay up all night. What do you think?

haha , Well I'm drinking a nice hot pumpkin latte , I have nothing to do , other than the computer , haven't showered yet , for it is only 6:40 AM.

Also what are you all doing for halloween? I'm sadly going to be doing nothing except television and computer..Wow I'm fun!

My brother is one , and I really wanted to take him trick or treating for his first "Real" Halloween (tommorow, last year he was too young) but I am not sure what is too cold for a 1 year old. He will be wearing his costume and a coat and hat. I dont want to make him get a cold. And what else should I do to ensure he is safe?

My daughter went to a Halloween sleepover this weekend and the mom allowed the girls to have a "seance". My daughter told my sister about this and my sister was really pissed. She claims that the friend's mother should have never allowed them to have it and that they could have conjoured up evil spirits, blah, blah, blah...

They didn't use a Ouija.... all they had was a candle and their imaginations. I'm not really familiar with seances besides playing "Light as a feather - stiff as a board" as kids and I don't know what they involve as far as the ability to do some wicked conjouring.

I'm just wondering what other members think about this and if they think it was morally wrong to let these kids play in the occult.

No answers from religious heretics please. I've got my own religion. I don't need to be overinformed about yours.
