My daughter went to a Halloween sleepover this weekend and the mom allowed the girls to have a "seance". My daughter told my sister about this and my sister was really pissed. She claims that the friend's mother should have never allowed them to have it and that they could have conjoured up evil spirits, blah, blah, blah...
They didn't use a Ouija.... all they had was a candle and their imaginations. I'm not really familiar with seances besides playing "Light as a feather - stiff as a board" as kids and I don't know what they involve as far as the ability to do some wicked conjouring.
I'm just wondering what other members think about this and if they think it was morally wrong to let these kids play in the occult.
No answers from religious heretics please. I've got my own religion. I don't need to be overinformed about yours.

I'm getting the impression that some people are believing that I am either agnostic or atheist which is not the fact.
I've been a card carrying member of the Methodist church for 34 years and have been baptized and made my confirmation.
Likewise, my kids do attend church and youth group.
I just don't know about this conjouring stuff because our religion focuses more in God's love than Satan's wrath.

Let children have fun & explore! Your sister is not very educated on the whole "spirit" thing. There are so many wonderful things about life, & being a chlid, part of that is curiosity, It's Halloween, I remember my friends and I doing things like that with Ouija boards, no one got posessed or nothing!! No item flying through the air, no one's head turning around, your sister need to lay off the scary movies! Let you children live!!!!!!!!! (p.s.) If they start skinning cats or sliting the throats of goats, I'd maybe worry=.)..............also, didn't you request no religious crap, I've noticed some responces from religious nuts that are talking about respect, but not respecting you...funny hua?

What is it with some adults that completly forget how they even thought when they were ten? I remember having at least three friends that had gone to seances, and it was all fun for them. They didn't freak out, or have nightmares. You can't say they don't understand what was happening. I don't think it is wrong at all. I don't think using candle is a good idea, but only because it is a fire hazard. Safer to use flashlights. Human minds are rather gulable, you can tell with all the people talking about evil spirits and possession junk. Just don't let her become one of them. After all, imagination may be more important than knowledge, but knowledge is still important. :)
If you have no idea what I just wrote, your not the only one. :)

A seance is the inviting of dead spirits to be present. It may seem harmless but where does it come from? It does not come from God, because does not facilitate communication with the dead. So it can only come from one other place -
You say you have a religion and I am pretty sure that any solid belief system is aware of the harm that inviting this type of thing can do on a spiritual level. We never want to invite that side of things because when we do we open the door to it.
The friend's mother was very irresponsible and was not thinking of or respecting the beliefs of the families that were there.
I would be upset too - she overstepped her boundaries when she allowed that, and I am sure kids who have sensitive hearts were uncomfortable and upset. Your sister is right.
I would check into this family and their beliefs very carefully if there is going to be contact in the future.

I would have them wait until at least their teen years. I don't think at 10 they even really understand what they're doing(if you believe in the supernatural then how grave, if not how silly). I think a few years later they would have formed better opinions about the occult, and either have a better laugh, or be spooked about how they 'summoned spirits'. I guess its not particularly harmful, but just because something isn't harmful doesn't mean its age appropriate.

I assume that when you want an answer, you want the truth. The Bible strictly prohibits this type of activity. Deut. 18:9. Pray over the child
and break any curses that could come from this. If you don't believe then ask your sister to do it for the sake of the child.

Since it is not real, any of it, then the worst that can happen is the kids will be scared. But since many people in my area are offended by any occult, I never expose their kids to that stuff, even for fun. Probably not the best idea since so many people in the US believe in spirits and supernatural.

They would have done it without the mother's permission, for one.For another, kids that age don't have a clue what they're doing. If there were evil spirits to conjure,I doubt that they would have been the ones to do it.Kids come up with stuff on their own and rarely even tell adults about them.Your daughter is fine, the party was fine, everything's fine.At least they didn't have boys over!

OMG -- how horrible! That mom should be talked to NOW!
NO, NO, NO, this was NOT a good thing. There are evil spirits lurking, just waiting to enter this realm.

Yea it might be fun,but it can get dangerous if they dont have alot of experience.I'v done seance's and trust me its better to have experience.I suggest they shouldn't since there that age and most likely have no experience.
happy halloween! )O(

No, this wasn't wrong. When I was a kid we did this too. That was over 40 years ago. Don't go making a big deal of it. Or else the kids will too.
