Usually the younger children are finished by 8 o'clock. You might get a few teenagers up until 9.

We turn off our lights by 9pm. We get about 120 Trick or Treaters a year. We find that after 8pm it is just older kids out messin' around or coming back for seconds.

Trick or treating is technically begging, and therefore illegal. Based on this, any _responsible_ parent wouldn't let their kids out begging in the first place, and there is no need to worry about "forgetting" any of the beggars - switch the light off whenever you like, and get a guard dog.

What with it being dark, I think it's safest to have it over by 8pm. Older teens really shouldn't be out, in my opinion. Is opening your door to large, disguised strangers really a safe thing to do? What about retirees? I have a strong Halloween spirit, but really believe in personal and family safety first.

We always try to be done by 8:00 or sooner. We usually start at about 6;30, and the kids' bags are usually full within a little over a half an hour or so.

For us, it depends on the weather - I think it's going to be cold, rainy and maybe snowy - so that keeps more away. Usually, my son goes til 8 or so. In our area, usually they stop coming around 8:30 or 9.
