there is a video/dvd of a leture at harvard, i think, of a professor talking about Darwin and evolution and natural selection, etc. He is really animated and humerous to watch. it is 120 minuts long, as he says, "this lecture is going to be 120 minutes long, that's just naturally how long i talk for." does anyone know his name.. if it helps, there is a blue background and he has gray hair and references slides of the idea of an ape turning into a human (the progression of it..).

......people below a certain attractiveness should only be allowed to marry people above a certain attractiveness to try and even the "good looking" genes out.Wouldn't this help stop all the angst so many people have to go through in life because of low-self esteem.?(the looks are based on an average rating)

I read many contrasting studies. A general claim is that the global IQ is rising (the Flynn effect). Other studies refute this. And other studies say IQ is hogwash and culturally bound.

At the end of the day my questions is: why do I have the sinking feeling we as a species are getting dumber by the minute?

be more turned on by ejaculating into a plastic cup than by sex? Equivalent question for women too?

Reason I ask - all our sexual responses from attraction right through to sexual sensation are thought to be programmed by evolution. ie we developed these pleasurable sensations to motivate us to have sex, because sex is associated with reproduction. If reproduction becomes associated with another act, like a visit to a clinic, and sex is no longer how we reproduce, are we going to evolve so that we're more turned on by the clinic visit?

from our need to reproduce. I'm talking about everything from feelings of attraction right through to physical stuff like the sensation of orgasm. Now that contraceptive use is so common, and the act of sex isn't anything like as well corellated with reproduction, are we going to evolve over time such that we don't have these pleasurable sexual sensations?

This isn't my area at all, so I'm not sure if that question makes sense - corrections appreciated.

National Geoprahic's genographic project suggests that all humans descend from an African ancestor who lived about 60 000 years ago. Paleoanthropological studies as well as archeological findings hypothesize that homosapiens (Humans) have existed for the last 200, 000 years (some findings suggest even longer). Why then should homo sapiens migrate only 60,000 years ago from Africa if indeed humans already existed 200,000 to 400,000 years ago? I am not totally convinced by the findings of the genographic project just how credible are they?
