from our need to reproduce. I'm talking about everything from feelings of attraction right through to physical stuff like the sensation of orgasm. Now that contraceptive use is so common, and the act of sex isn't anything like as well corellated with reproduction, are we going to evolve over time such that we don't have these pleasurable sexual sensations?

This isn't my area at all, so I'm not sure if that question makes sense - corrections appreciated.

Just the opposite. If the human race is to survive we will have to evolve so that we receive more pleasure from sex or there will be no birth. Lets face it if sex were a chore, like doing the dishes, men wouldn't do it at all.

I would say that attraction is based on what your culture defines as attractive, not programmed into your genes. The concept of beauty has, after all, changed dramatically over the years. You could even say the concept of beauty now changes from season to season with the fashions. Orgasm, however, would be an evolutionary incentive to have sex, particularly for the male. Female orgasm, it is belived, may have added benefits, beside the obvious pleasure, of aiding the travel of sperm into the uterus and facilitating conception, a trick that a female can use to pick which male she mates with to father her offspring. And to believe that contraceptive use is common is an logical error. The amount of fatherless children in America and the AIDS rate in Africa prove that condom usage is not that common in the world. Or at least, not common enough to cause evolution.

Those sensations shouldnt change, but psychologically they can and often do.

The sensations themselves are achieved through the stimulation of certain nerves, and if damage to those nerves occur- sensations will not be felt- but miraculously other nerves can be re-trained to take over and achieve the same or similar sensations in many instances.

Psychologically, if the use of contraception changes the way you FEEL about sex, your perception of it may cause interference to your sexual drive or sensations.

Obviously, using a condom also changes the sensation of sex, so I am assuming thats not what you were referring to.

Of course not , we still derive pleasure from warmth , fire , water when we thirst , and food when are hungry or not . I think being horny will always be a pleasure , it is a trait hereditary to the human race , we are addicted to comfort and sensation , and this question is sensationalised .
