Humans are true omnivores, being healthiest when both meat and vegatable matter are present in the diet.

People can eat raw meat, but cooking was discoverd to release more nutritional value because cooked meat was easier to digest and reduced the rate of parasitic infestation.

Great whales eat plankton which is both plant and animal matter, but do not use teeth at all.

Hawks are strict carnivores, but have no teeth.

there is more than one way to skin your meal!

Humans are omnivores.

Therefore we have the teeth, and more importantly the digestive system, to eat both meats & vegetables.

And as for the stupid answer from Sam1969

1) Some species of monkeys do eat meat, in fact they will eat their own young
2) Humans DO have canine teeth

Weather man is right. Humans are omnivores not just carnivores. Also Chimpanzees will actively hunt down colobus monkeys and eat them. It is thought by some scientists that our eating of meat is what caused the evolution of humans. The greater amount of protein and red meat eaten by our ape-like ancestors is what boosted our intelligence. This in turn caused us to want more meat as a way of perhaps satisfying our need to gain more knowledge. Our bodies then evolved from being suited to gathering fruit in trees to hunting down animals. This is probably what allowed for a bigger skull to develop and thus a larger brain.

Speaking for myself yes.
I think cooked meat still requires canines to cope with it.

to answer this u must go back to the look of the first humans they were vegeterian but as time passed by human started not to fear animals and hunt them down and before the fire was created they used to tear it's flesh with there bare teeth after the fire well accidently a human cooked a dead body of an animal and since then human used to cook meat and in ancient life they thought killing an animal an eating it will transefere his power to u so we got used to it by time and we came used to eat meat
but note that there is some ppl who dare not cause of thier genes and a piece of meat will poison them
so i think we were vegeterians but we choosed to be more aggresive and became a meat eaters

Humans are carnivores, we've just evolved over time to cook the meat. Carnivores are mammals that need protein to survive and keep their young alive.
