We hear many stories about repeat offenders, who have spent some time in jail, only to be released and re-offend.

If someone has a long, repeated history of violent offences, is it not sensible for them to be permanently restricted, for the sake of protecting the public? Perhaps a permanent prison sentence, or permanent monitoring using some kind of electronic device, or geographic restriction (exile) to a small community, etc. or at least permanent daily parole.

A sequel to this question is: many people with recurrent patterns of criminal behaviour have a low potential of being "rehabilitated". Should the first priority of a prison be to simply protect the public from dangerous individuals--accepting that some prisoners have an intractable problem that cannot be "rehabilitated"? Or do you believe that every individual prisoner should have costly, time-consuming therapy to help them change their ways, so they can rejoin society?

Some animals, like flocks of birds, schools of fish, or colonies of ants or bees, have a form of collective intelligence that allows them to move and work together as a group.

Do humans also have some primitive connection to the other people around them that cuases them to "become one" with the group? Do we have different roles (like soldier ants vs gatherers or sentries) that are inborn traits?

We have been promoting social enterprises, but I am wondering about the macro-economic policy and framework underpinning it. Does Social Capitalism exist, an are we seeing more and more of it in practice with Warren Buffet and kie. applying their gains to social aims. Or is this just good old grantmaking???

You are driving along on a wild stormy night. You pass by a bus stop and you see three people waiting for the bus:

1. An old lady who is about to die.
2. An old friend who once saved your life.
3. The perfect man/woman of your dreams.

Which one would you choose, knowing that there could only be one passenger in your car?

You could pick up the old lady, because she is going to die and thus you should save her first; or, you could take the old friend because he once saved your life and that would be the perfect chance to pay him back. However, you may never be able to find your perfect dream lover again.
Who would you choose?

What life would be like if everything was perfect? Would it even be possible? A worldwide Utopia ... If you think about it ... since the dawn of time, there has been a balance between positive and negative energies. There is no escaping either one. If you have good times in your life, bad times will eventually come, and vice versa. Nothing good lasts forever, but then again so does nothing bad. Is a worldwide utopian society even plausible? Could there be a world with no evil/negative energies/bad in it? I don't think so ... and to wait for one to come is pointless. Life has needed and always will need balance. The good will need to be balanced by the bad.

What do you think?
