We are doing a science project and our teacher requires us to have a control group. My problem is I don't know what a control group is.
My project is: Does chewing gum increase your mouth's bacteria?
I'm comparing the bacteria growth of chewing gum after meals and not chewing gum after meals. I think my control group would be gum..right?

Also, please help me on how to explain my control group in a detailed format.

Great thanks. All help is appreciated. =)

Remember, there is nothing on the walls in the room except for a frameless mirror, and all you have is night vision goggles. Think of what is needed to create a reflection in the mirror; light.

Jim has 5 pieces of string. He needs to choose the piece that will be able to go around his 36-inch waist. His belt broke, and his pants are falling down. The piece needs to be at least 4 inches longer than his waist so he can tie a knot in it, but it cannot be more that 6 inches longer so that the ends will not show from under his shirt. Which of the following pieces of string will work the best?

I was watching TV and a scientist said that any explosion is a solid turning into gas rapidly

that doesn't make sense when you think about it

can you make any sense of it.

This is a bit of an odd question but a debate in my household for a while. Are you suppose to wait until the microwave stops beeping for all the harmful radiation to disappear before taking out something that you have just warmed up? Or does anyone know the real purpose of those extra few seconds of beeping after the timer has gone off?

Please explain your answer. I do not want a simple "yes", "no" or "maybe". That won't help me understand the subject at all. Do not direct me to a website too. Tell me what YOU think. Thanks for responding.

hi, i'm a recent applicant applying for the undergraduate science programs in this coming fall 07. I'd like to ask if anyone could give me some advises in choosing a major to get in? I'm interested in biochemistry, health science and genetics stuffs. Which courses are hot in York Uni? and less-competitive to get in? I know the biochemistry course is highly competitive to enrol, so what are other alternatives? Biology or chemistry? There aren't many choices to pick though. Any advises in the future career aspects in this field would be much appreciated too! thanks!
