This question is in a practice test for a nursing program. The answer they cite is 5000. There are different answers to this problem depending on how you round off, but I haven't been able to get an even 5000...I'd be interested in seeing what everyone else gets as the solution.

I ask the question, what is the value q of the exponential function q^x such that its derivative with respect to x is equal to itself?

Okay... dont just spout out the mindless answer "oh, q equals Euler's constant, 'e'"... not good enough.

'e' was originally defined as the base of an exponential function ( e^x ) such that it had a slope of 1 at x=0. Thats is what e is based on... its only coincidence that its derivative equals itself throughout its domain. That was proven as a consequence of its definition.

My proposition is, what if ∂/∂x e^x did not equal e^x... regardless of the fact that it has a slope of 1 at x=0.

How would mathematicians have determined (or proven to exist) that one special number, the base to an exponential function, whose derivative was equal to itself?

Okay well I'll just be honest.. I wasn't paying attention in class. And this book is confusing, as always.

So can someone explain how you get angles measurements from polygons? Like in this picture:http://i18.tinypic.com/814dx8o.gif
And what if it has say.. 17 sides?

How would you find out the measurement of the angles inside, and the angle of X?

And how do you use "180(n - 2)" to get this?
(There was some other equations like this but I forget them).

Please make it simple, thanks.

Literal equations? I just learned this today, and it was taught very briefly so I'm getting unsure here and there.

Write the equation in fuction form:
8x + y - 4 = 0

4x + 2y = 14

4y - 4x +4 = 0

I just need help and some explaining. I really appreciate it.

You drive 90m along a hwy and then take a 5 mile run. Your driving rate is 9 times that of your running rate. (there is a graph with points aprox.(1.7, 8) (3,5) (5,3) (7,2) (11,1.5)

The function supplied is:
f(x)= 90/9x + 5/x = 15/x

the question askes
Descrive your running rate if you have no more than a total of 5hrs of running and driving. Use a rational inequality to solve the problem.

If I could get a setup I believe I could solve this.
