The sum of the squares of two (2) consecutive integers is nine (9) greater than eight (8) times the smaller. Find the numbers!?

So the main question I am doing is... " The area of a right triangle is 60 sq. in. The longer leg is 1 less than twice the shorter leg. Find the length of each leg. Show all work" what I have so far is "60= (1\2)(x)(2x-1)
60= (1\2)(2x^2-x)..." I cannot figure out how to solve this equation to figure out the variable so I can figure out the sides than use the pythag. theorem for the hypoteneous. Can someone help?

If you are only considering values of t for which the cylinder is not empty, what would be the domian for the function?

the question is "express the total number S of square feet of glass needed as a function of x"...the aquarium in the picture has a height of 1.5, a length of x, and a width of y.
this is what i did:
2(lw +hl+hw)
this is what i got to:
3x+2xy+3y
how would i get y by itself, in order to make this a function of x?
