A. adding 5 to both sides changes nothing, but does simplify the problem. You do it to get it away from the 2x. It is called balancing. example 7=7, so 7+2=7+2 9=9
The equal sign is still true.
B. combining like terms
C. divide both sides by 2 keeps the equal sign in balance and gets the x alone.
D. final answer. Maybe this helps a little.
