get rid of both the divisors by multiplying both sides with 8 and 3

3(2x + 5) = 8(x + 3)

6x + 15 = 8x + 24

6x - 8x = 24 - 15

-2x = 9

so,

x = -4.5

Alright, let's work this out:

(2x + 5) / 8 = (x+3) / 3 --problem
(2x + 5) = 8(x+3)/3 -- multiply 8 across
3(2x + 5) = 8(x + 3) -- multiply 3 across
Now distribute the 3 and 8
(3*2x +3*5) = (8*x + 8*3) -- distribute
6x + 15 = 8x + 24 -- simplified multiplication
15 - 24 = 8x - 6x -- got like terms on same sides
-9 = 2x -- simplified subtraction
-9/2 = x -- solved for x
or
-4.5 = x -- decimal answer

Hope this helps. :)

(2x+5)/8 =(x+3)/3

3(2x+5)=8(x+3)

6x+15=8x+24
15-24 =2x
-9=2x

x=-9/2

1/8*(2x+5)=(x+3)/3
or 3(2x+5)=8(x+3)
or 6x+15=8x+24
or 6x-8x=24-15
or -2x=9
or x=-9/2 ans
