I recently saw a documentary in which they moved a large building a hundred miles. They said the estimated weight of the building was 900 tons. What is the formula they would've used to get this estimate?

I just learning about this stuff so I need some help please.

Given f(x) = x^2 and x>0 then prove

f[SQRT(x) + SQRT(f(x))]
/ (aka divided by)
f(x+1) - f(x-1)

is a constant. (I think this means it does not depend on x.

An explaination would be very helpful, thank you very much.

In my calculous class this equation was presented to the calss:
x*x = x + x + x + ... + x (x times)
d/dx (x*x) = d/dx ( x + x + x + ... + x )
d/dx (x*x) = d/dx (x) + d/dx (x) + ... d/dx (x)
2x = 1 + 1 + ... + 1
2x = x
2 = 1

I do not understand why this works. If possible coul you pleasse explain why it works. In addition to why it techiquenly does not.

I just did it all in my head because it's the way I think. I am horrible when it comes to translating word problems into equations though (hence my other question).

Before you rant about how I should consult my text book, saxon doesn't teach one how to think intuitively. :) Word problems can vary so much..
