6h-8h+9=37
6h - 8h = 37 -9
-2h = 28
h = 28/-2
h = -14

Now Checking;
6*(-14) -8*(-14) + 9 = 37
-84 + 112 +9 = 37
-84 +121 = 37
+37 = +37

move the constants to one side of the equation
6h-8h=37-9; reduce like terms
-2h=28, then divide by -2 each side
h=-14
Check it
6(-14)-8(-14)+9=37
-84+112+9=37
-84+121=37
37=37
