I was standing on the Canadian side, looking west across the lake from north of Grand Bend. Someone suggested we could see the lights because the water level is so low. Someone else suggested we were seeing lights on ships. But the horizon's only 3-4 miles away, right? Later that night we could see only one light, and later still there were none. I've been looking out over this lake from the same spot and have never seen anything like it. Neighbors confirmed seeing the same thing on other nights, too. This all happened on the first weekend of May.

People go to this place by ferry from a nearby port city, one named for a famed explorer, and most of those visitors come to fish.
