I was standing on the Canadian side, looking west across the lake from north of Grand Bend. Someone suggested we could see the lights because the water level is so low. Someone else suggested we were seeing lights on ships. But the horizon's only 3-4 miles away, right? Later that night we could see only one light, and later still there were none. I've been looking out over this lake from the same spot and have never seen anything like it. Neighbors confirmed seeing the same thing on other nights, too. This all happened on the first weekend of May.

Well it was either a rel ship or one of the "ghost ships" that patrol the waters of the Great Lakes and their waterways. At 30 mile distance view, I would thik that you were not on shore, but in a stand of some sort? As at land level on a clear dy at the Great lakes you can only see at most 10 miles with the naked eye. (lived there all my life). Most intriguing tho', please send more info. I know of strange behavior in those waters, have seen it first hand..

It's called ducting, Light gets caught moving over cool water with warm air above it and the combination acts like a mirrored tunnel for the light. It's common with radio waves also
