Just curious as to what others think about Hubberts theory on peak oil production, and the feasability of alternative energy sources. Will there be a triumph of human ingenuity or are we doomed due to the excessive consumption of modern life?

I have searched unsuccessfully to find the answer. The idea is that he Planet Earth follows guidelines or criteria for living things...such as adjusting to extremes, balancing of various factors (heat , cold) -- changing things to bring balance..
i.e. homeostasis, such as human beings or other living things.

I was watching the river as I rode home on the bus today. (lol) I noticed that the river was flowing pretty fast one way and for some reason or another there were tiny little waves moving upstream. I want to know what the some reason or another is. Can anyone tell me why there are waves going the opposite of the current?
