Just curious as to what others think about Hubberts theory on peak oil production, and the feasability of alternative energy sources. Will there be a triumph of human ingenuity or are we doomed due to the excessive consumption of modern life?

I'm familiar with the economics of alternative energy vs. hydrocarbons, however there is also the issue of the efficiencies of the alternatives as well as the distribution and infrastructure requirements of these alternatives. To add to this debate check the links below:

I personally want to believe in human ingenuity, however when sifting through the data and information we have available, even the most optomistic of us has to admit that the task is and will be quite daunting . . .

There is active work being done on acquiring energy from the Zero Point Energy field. A PHD named Tom Bearden, retired Army reseach, has done some extremely promising work, specifically the development of the Motionless Electrical Generator (MEG) which is an over unity device that has a COP much greater than one. The work is presented in his web site and it is worth reading.

The answer is blowing in the wind, but is entirely dependent upon economics. As soon as alternative energy sources are price competitive with hydrocarbon sources, then they will be in more demand. We are not doomed because of excessive consumption; civilization thrives upon its utility of energy sources.

I hope that we find an alternate energy source before we either kill eachother fighting over oil or before we poison the earth.
