Would you believe that in developed world, the percentage of land that is forested has been steadily increasing for the past few decades?

Trees don't particularly need "saving". Now, you can make a case for saving certain ecosystems (e.g. old growth forests), and there are issues with the ecological impact of clear-cutting and what-not. However, generally speaking, there's nothing wrong with cutting down trees, as long as you do it in a responsible manner and plant new trees to replace the ones you cut down.
