I have searched unsuccessfully to find the answer. The idea is that he Planet Earth follows guidelines or criteria for living things...such as adjusting to extremes, balancing of various factors (heat , cold) -- changing things to bring balance..
i.e. homeostasis, such as human beings or other living things.

It has to do that, it would make less sense if it didn't. It is kind of like a plant or something, it is alive in a sense but it feels no pain.

you mean you can't feel the way the earth moves or breaths feel the mod change in the sky or feel take tremor under your feet. this whole planet is alive

This planet is the ultimate living being. It might not "feel" pain but it has suffered.
