Is being Seismic zone more dangerous than near an earthquake fault? When will seismic liquefaction happens? Does it have to be with or without every earthquake?

The shells have some erosion in the flutes and are stained with some chips. They have been in her yard in Seattle for 40 years. I think she got them when they were in the military overseas.

landmass is lower appalachian, so no geothermic activity to offset the temp. I actually googled this for a while then decided to post here.
Any pointers to temp variation by depth in the earth would be appriciated.
Assume hole is a 3 foot shaft if that helps.
