Most of those who have answered are correct. We are here because of an act of creation. Originally our world was perfect. Satan, who had previously rebelled against God, was allowed to tempt mankind to act contrary to the revealed will of God. Mankind acted opposite to what God had commanded, and so the already announced curse was activated - a state of death was instituted.

At this time the perfect environment in which mankind lived was taken away - mankind was driven out of it. When Jesus Christ died, He died to restore to mankind what had been lost. He also inflicted a final judgment on Satan, "And the Devil that deceived them was cast into the Lake of Fire, where the beast and false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night forever and ever." This prophecy concerning Satan is yet in the future, and it cannot be changed. We are here to pass through this time and on to the perfect world we had originally been created for.

I see you're new so I wont lecture you but you have asked a philosophical question. It belongs in the Religion & Spirituality sub category of the Society & Culture category. You'll get a much better response and more answers you'll agree with if you ask your questions in the appropriate categories. I don't believe you would expect questions regarding quantum mechanics, math or chemistry in the Family and Relationships category. You'll find good answers to almost any questions you have at Yahoo! Answers especially if you're looking in the right places. Good luck with your Quest.

We were put here on earth to carry out the will of God and to possess his promises although many people do not follow in the will of God and do not possess the promises that God has set out for his people.

That is the eternal question isn't it? If you believe in God as I then you will believe it is a test to prove your worthiness to enter heaven. If you believe there is an afterlife then you have to believe that there are reasons we are here. There are things that we are not able to understand or even comprehend. Like fish in the waters. That is the life they know, They can't comprehend that we are here watching them in fishbowls, eating them for dinner and so on. The water is their world. Our life is ours and when the time comes we will understand more. One step until we reach the next. Good luck on your quest for knowledge.

We were put on earth because of Satan's rebellion. God gave everyone (those who sided with him and those who sided with evil during the rebellion) a fair second chance to side with good.

To ask why. We all come to the end of our own strengths and limitations and recognize the miracle of the creation, and yearn to know the creator.

Thats why we were created to ask why. No other organism can do that.
