It seems to be used to measure the quantity of Vitamin A in foods, but what is it equal to? Milligrams? Micrograms?

Also there seem to be TWO types of measurement for Vitamin A, one is IU, the other is "RAE". Why are there 2 different measurements, and what is RAE?

Although I read somewhere that when its exposed to oxygen it oxides, I'm not sure how to answer this question, but I have it for a chemistry lab. "Although calcium is a metal according to its position on the Periodic Table it seemingly lacks luster. How can this be explained?"
Any ideas?
