If you could, please apply it to this question:

b. Explain in a paragraph why (and how) liquid mercury could be vaporized.
c. The freezing point of Hg is -38.87 degrees C; does crystalline Hg exert a vapor pressure? Is the vapor pressure of Hg(l) larger or smaller than that of Hg(g)? Hg(s)?

For b, it is my understanding that when a liquid has great pressure, it vaporizes. Is this correct?

Since when temps. rise, solids become more soluable in water and gases become less soluable in water. If my soft drink has high concentrates of sugar and carbon dioxide what would be expected to happen?

Will sugar participate out?
Gas bubbles form and produce form?
Water evaporates rapidly?

Or, a combination of these answers? I know it can't be water evaporates rapidly only.

I am so confused!! Please help.

1. A gas of unknown molecular weight is found to diffuse at a rate of 0.19cm/s compared to 0.59 cm/s for helium gas. Calculate the molecular weight of the unknown gas.

2. Which of all of the possible gases should have the highest rate of diffusion?

The question I am working on is as follows:

Write balanced half-reaction equations for the processes that occur at the anode and cathode when an aqueous solution of potassium chloride is electrolyzed. Identify the oxidizing agent and reducing agent. Calculate the number of kilowatt-hours of energy required to produce 2.00 kg of chlorine gas if the voltage applied is 4.8 V and the current is 3.5 x 105 amps. (1 kwh = 3.6 x 106 J)

I know that I am going to have the half reactions for Chlorine and water..but I am not sure by what it means when the question states that potassium chloride is "electrolyzed." does this mean that the Chlorine half reaction is for the cathode? And thus, the Chlornie will act as the oxidizing agent since it will be reduced? Argh I'm so confused! Can someone please help me? Thanks in advance :D
