suppose i am trying to study a reaction which an enzyme catalyzes. H+ form in the reaction but the enzyme gets destroyed at low pH. What could be added to the reaction mixture to protect the enzyme?

Where do human beings fit on the list as far as "most numerous species" on earth?...I'm not talking about insects. I would have to assume that humans are very high on the list - we populate the entire world (the land part of it anyway) & we have no natural predators. There are 6.5 billion people on earth...how does this compare with other species? Are we the most populous mammal? If we are - what mammal would be second? Other than specific endangered species - I can't find too much info on the net about estimates of the world's population for a given species of animal (other than humans, obviously).

Im doing a biology paper about the pH buffer Tribasic Phosphate, and am finding a great deal of difficulty finding anything about "tribasic phopshate" anywhere. I was shocked to hear that the human possesses both mitochondrial dna, which is ancient and the function unknown and the beter known nuclear dna which controls all known functions and characteristics of the human species. Could anyone please tell me more about the function of the mitochondrial dna and the role of the rna. Thank-you!
