A sign is suspended from two chains AE and BF. Knowing that the tension in BF is 200 N, determine (a) the moment about A of the force exterted by chain B, (b) the smallest force applied at C which creates the same moment about A.

On a truly cosmic scale every point would be surrounded by an equal amount of mass in every direction, and so would be "pulled" equally by gravity in all directions. Would this cancel out so the net force on each point would be zero. This would seem to apply irrespective of the shape of the universe, or even if the universe was infinite.

Surely there must be something wrong with my reasoning since if it would preclude the possibility of a "Big Crunch" and I would like to know my error

I'm in an Elementary Surveying Class, and last week we went over some stuff on surveying but I can't get this question using the notes I got so I'm gonna see if anyone our here can help me.

I was given 2 stations on a horizontal line. One station was called Sta 10+00, the other is Sta 17+46.32 how do you figure out the distance between? I was also given a manhole that is 112.43ft to the east of Sta 17+46.32 how do I figure out the station of the manhole?

What I'm trying to find out is the minimum amount of time it has taken for one species (it doesn't matter which) to evolve into another distinct species, possibly also how long on average it would take an individual member of that species to reproduce.

I am no expert on the subject of evolution and I may have incorrectly phrased the question. Please forgive me if this is the case and feel free to give whatever answer you can.

As science advances, intelligent life will be discovered. The SETI project will eventually prove it, and it could happen in just a few years. The search for planets on other stars first found one, then another, then hundreds. The same will happen in the search for extra-terrestial intelligent life.

ok evolution blah blah, says a creature can live for millions of years and not change if there is no change to it's environment

This is the evolutionist argument for why the creationist's favourite fish the cealocanth looks exactly the same.

The question is, what happend to all the ancient men

astolopithicus forgive the spelling, erectus, habilius., and cro magnum

what major change happened to their environment

they lived in caves and jungles, we still have caves and jungles,

we still have plenty of caves and jungles no one has ever walked into

so how did they die out, seeing as their environments have been virtually untouched?

they survived the ice age and then decided to what exactly?

their enviroments have reamianed the same, they should still be around

and if disease killed them all off, then how did we get here, disease certainly didn't bother the cealocanth too much

natural disasters....something always survives...ask the cealocanth

suggestions please

I was building my Xenu shelter and came across petrified remains of what looks to be an ancient burial ground of small rodents (all under 3' in length) with huge ivory tusks(2.5" each) and wing remains. It looks like a sabortoothed bat, or a carnivorous flying gerbil-squirrel... I know they are not bats because of horns. It's like as if someone gave a chihuahua some Dracula teeth and glued some wings on it. Weird..

These questions are for fall arrest systems.
1. A 180LB man has a 10' rope tying him to a bolt in a wall. The man free falls for 10'. How much force (lbs) is applied to the bolt when he comes to a sudden stop?
2. Now, the last 3' of the 10' rope is set-up to decelerate the 180LB man. (Man free falls for 7' then decelerates for 3'). How much force (lbs) is applied to the bolt at 7' (point of deceleration) and at 10' (end of 3' deceleration)?

please post answers in Lbs.
