I used substitution and got -1/2cos(x^-2), but when I checked it on mathimatica's site it gave me 1/2 cos(x^-2), any ideas why I got a negative and it didn't?

Drag racing is an acceleration contest over a distance of a quarter of a mile. For a given total weight, the speed of a car at the end of the race is a function of the car's power. For a total weight of 3500 pounds, the speed s (in miles per hour) can be modeled by s = 14.8 3 (or 3rd power) to the square root of p where p is the power (in horsepower). Graph the model. then determine the power of a car that reaches a speed of 100 miles per hour.

How do you solve these heat/temperature questions?

1. How many kilograms of water at 100.0°C can be converted to steam by the addition of 1.13 x 10^7 joules of thermal energy? (L =2.26 x 10^6 J/kg)

Do I use two equations, Q=mcΔT and Q=mL? What I do know is this is a vaporization, that's all.

2. Calculate the energy needed to change 25 g of ice at -15.0°C to steam at 130.0°C. The specific heat of ice is 2.06 x 10^3 J/kg C° and of steam is 2.02 x 10^3 J/kg C°.

I simply have NO idea how to approach this one.

Thank you!

I have a review question and I know the answer because it is in the answer book. What I need to know is how the 13 power of 2 comes in.
5x(3x+2y-2)-2x(x-5y+3)

This is what I did:
5x(3x) -2x(x) 5x(+2y )-2x(-5y )5x(-2)-2x(+3)
15x -2x -10xy -10xy -10x -6x
13x -20xy -16x

But somehow the 13x is 13x^2
I don't understand that?
